Greetings from Spitzkoppe - the "Matterhorn of Namibia"

GREETINGS FROM ... are short field notes from the road. Directly from travelers on location.

Spitzkoppe, Namib Desert. Many call it the "Matterhorn of Namibia". A single granite mountain rising out of the vastness - visible from afar, noticeable for even longer. Romy and Mario have stayed right here. After three years of traveling through Africa, they have found their home with their children in the Erongo Mountains - in a place that is more than just a stopover.

Hello, we are Romy & Mario, together with our children Sherine & Sam. We were on the road for three years - on dusty tracks, endless roads and through the middle of Africa in our expedition vehicle. A journey that changed us. And which ultimately led us to exactly where we are today: Namibia.

The fact that we found our new home near the Spitzkoppe of all places feels almost like fate, because:

💡 Did you know that the Spitzkoppe is often referred to as the "Matterhorn of Namibia"? It is a striking, approx. 1728 m high granite island mountain in the Namib Desert between Usakos and Swakopmund.

Our new home is nestled in the Erongo Mountains - between Windhoek, Swakopmund and this very special place, which captivated us from the very beginning.

For many, Namibia is "Africa light" - and yes, it makes it easy to arrive: good restaurants, little pieces of home like Mettbrötchen, German-speaking encounters. But for us it is much more. It's the vastness. The silence. The feeling of freedom.

One of the attractions for us was Spitzkoppe, a large area for wild camping and letting off steam with our e-motorbikes. The large stone cliffs offer ideal conditions for hiking and climbing. Hundreds of petroglyphs can be found on the rocks. And once a year, this quiet, almost mystical landscape suddenly comes to life: When electronic beats echo through the rocks and a rave festival transforms the desert into a place full of energy, encounters and unforgettable moments.

Greetings from

Romy, Mario, Sherine & Sam
