Description
I'm selling my 2025 Kawasaki KLR 650, which I bought last year for my trips through Canada.
I’m from Zurich and I also ride enduro bikes at home. Canada and Alaska had been on my bucket list for a long time—and at some point, I decided I didn’t want to just look at them on a map anymore, but experience them on a motorcycle.
Shipping my own bike for two trips from Switzerland to Canada and back didn’t make much financial sense. The costs for transport and shipping would have ended up being higher than buying a new bike there.
So that’s exactly what I did: Instead of shipping my motorcycle halfway around the world, I bought a new Kawasaki KLR 650 in Canada—with the plan to use it for both trips and then sell it back in Canada afterward.
So the question arose:
Which bike should you buy in Canada for exactly this kind of trip?
In my search, I kept coming back to the KLR 650. Sturdy, straightforward, reliable, and just as suited for long distances as it is for gravel and rough roads. Somewhere, it was described as the “Swiss Army Knife of Motorcycles.” As a Swiss person, I naturally found that appealing. Today I can say: It was the right choice.
Bought new—every kilometer ridden by me
I bought the Kawasaki brand-new in 2025 with 0 km on the odometer at Ryderz in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Every kilometer the bike has on the odometer today, I’ve ridden myself. So there’s no unknown history and no previous owners.
In 2025, my journey took me through British Columbia; in 2026, I made it all the way to Alaska. Most of the time, I was on the road with a tent and my gear, traveling at my own pace and without any competitive ambitions. The KLR did exactly what I bought it for: it ran. Reliably and without any drama.
After my last tour, I decided that I’m done with my big motorcycle trips through Canada. I’d love to go back to Canada—but next time with a little more comfort and probably a heated camper. I’ll be 70 soon ;)
That’s why the Kawasaki is now looking for a new owner.
Kawasaki KLR 650, model year 2025
Liquid-cooled 4-stroke single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 652 cm³, 40 PS at 6,000 rpm, and 53 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Electronic DFI fuel injection with a 40-mm throttle body, 5-speed transmission, and chain drive. Mileage: 19,296 km.
23.1-liter fuel tank capacity, 871 mm seat height, 211 mm ground clearance, and approximately 210 kg curb weight. 300-mm front disc brake with 2-piston caliper, 240-mm rear disc brake.
Condition:
The bike has been very well maintained, and I’ve taken good care of it and serviced it accordingly. After my last trip, I had new tires installed again. No extreme off-road use and no high-speed experiments. I traveled with the KLR—I didn’t race it. Between my two trips, it was stored safely at a friend’s farm in Canada.
There is a small sign of wear on the right-side bag (accessory) near the exhaust, where the material has melted slightly due to the heat. There are also a few Alaska stickers. You can remove them—or simply leave them on as part of the bike’s history.
Features:
The KLR is equipped for long-distance travel and is, in principle, ready to hit the road again right away:
Luggage System / Side Bags
Crash bars
Retrofitted USB power supply for a GPS or smartphone
New tires installed after the last trip
Oil change and chain tensioned after the last trip
Location: Red Deer, AB, Canada
I’d be happy if the KLR didn’t just sit around somewhere. It was bought to explore Canada and Alaska, has reliably accompanied me on my travels—and I’d love for it to collect a few more kilometers and stories with its next owner.
