Description

After much back-and-forth, we’re selling our faithful companion of 15 years, which has taken us all over Europe and Africa. The Mercedes has never let us down; it’s always received the necessary maintenance, including essential replacements like wheel bearings, the radiator, the alternator, etc. Rust isn’t an issue—when it’s not in use, it’s stored in the barn. Of course, it has the patina that comes with traveling—it wasn’t built to be a ice cream truck, after all. When its weight was reduced to a true 7.49 metric tons and it was converted from a flatbed to a 3-point-mounted LAK, it also received an H-license (tax and insurance approx. 390€ per year). As part of these modifications, I fitted it with a like-new OM352 A 5-speed transmission and both axles from Bundeswehr stockpiles. The odometer now reads 75,000 km; the chassis has more mileage. During this time, the fuel injection pump and injectors were modified by Rüdiger Schramm, now delivering 210 PS to the axle. Free-wheel hubs were installed, resulting in fuel consumption of only 19 liters. All modifications were documented with photos. The diesel capacity is 800 liters. The living area features a cozy, off-road-ready real-wood interior with all the essentials: 230 liters of water, a 200×140 bed, a 90-liter Engel compressor refrigerator, a Portapotti (new and unused), gas heating, a 3-burner stove, a 300W solar panel, 2 × 110Ah batteries, and 220V shore power. The truck has a new TÜV inspection and is registered, so it’s ready to hit the road.
