Description

The 1993 Defender pictured above is for sale.

The vehicle is a Turkish licensed production model (Ottokar) that was used by the Turkish military as a command vehicle for a mine-clearing unit.

I purchased the vehicle from a dealer who had painted the Defender red back then. So I am effectively the second owner after the Turkish military.

I’ve driven the vehicle off-road, since I converted it into an off-road camper, but it’s never seen any truly rugged off-road conditions. At least not with me ;)

A lot has been done to the vehicle since I’ve owned it:

  • Engine swap (out with the 2.5 NA, in with the 200 TDI)—the “new” engine came from a scrap vehicle, and it was impossible to determine how many kilometers it had on it. However, it was overhauled before installation.

  • Pop-up roof installed by a specialized body shop

  • All wheel bearings replaced, along with the corresponding seals

  • Replaced the sealing lips on the axle ball joints

  • New drive pins installed on the rear axle

  • Handbrake overhauled

  • Visco fan replaced with an electronic, temperature-controlled fan

  • The underbody was refurbished in several stages; during the entire time I owned the vehicle, it was exposed to salt only twice (at Autostrand); otherwise, it was deregistered every winter and always stored in a dry carport, so the underbody looks accordingly good

  • Sound-deadening mats installed

  • Seats from the Td4 installed

The following work was done on the body:

  • Stripped out and re-insulated with Armaflex

  • 200-watt solar system installed

  • 2x 100 Ah LiFePo batteries installed

  • 36-liter fresh water tank

  • Portable wastewater tank (approx. 20 liters)

  • External connection for shore power

  • Refrigerator for 12V and shore power operation

  • Diesel auxiliary heater

This vehicle is a former military vehicle that shows signs of wear and tear consistent with its age and use. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
