Description

Do you dream of freedom on four wheels?

Then it is fate that you have found my offer here, this is your opportunity for a reliable and long-term travel companion at a reasonable price.

After a wonderful time, my long-distance travel dream Toyota Hilux may move on.

First the vehicle:

Toyota Hilux double cab from April 2012 with the well-known 3L four-cylinder 1KD-FTV with 171 hp, a well-known endurance runner, just like the 5-speed automatic transmission with hydraulic torque converter.

Accident-free collector's vehicle, not a run-down construction site vehicle.

Currently around 220,000 km, still driven daily. For a Toyota, you could say it's just about run in. The engine and gearbox are known for being able to drive over half a million kilometers without a breakdown. Sensible care and driving style are of course necessary.

12-wheel tires.

In 2021, I sandblasted the entire underbody, applied 3-4 coats of rust protection paint and treated the cavities. In terms of rust, it is therefore in very good condition, ready to travel to faraway countries.

It also has a 5.9-ton cable winch on a Taubenreuther carrier integrated into the original front (registered, carrier 1200Fr, cable winch 550Fr)

A Safari snorkel (750Fr) is also fitted and registered. Not for show, but neatly connected, it provides the engine with cooler, low-dust air from above instead of sucking it in over the right front wheel. It is also an additional safety feature to the already considerable original fording depth of 70cm. The ventilation of the rear axle has also been raised.

Since May 2025, the rear axle has been equipped with a pneumatic limited slip differential from the Australian quality supplier ARB, which takes off-road capability a big step further. The associated compressor is protected from the weather under the driver's seat. Additional connections for tire inflation can easily be fitted. (New price lock and compressor 1850Fr May 2025)

In 2022, the Hilux was prepared to carry a living cabin. For this purpose, the original sheet metal platform was removed and a change frame was mounted and registered with the road traffic office (self-made, 800Fr material and galvanizing).

The swap frame itself does not have its own floor. However, one or two Euro pallets can still be transported directly on it. The four mounting holes make it easy to fit a loading platform.

A Garmin Overlander navigation system with 7-inch screen, standard road navigation, but also off-road navigation according to routes for off-road terrain in remote regions or in the desert is available so that you can always find your way to your destination and back home again. (May 2024 543Fr)

For communication on group trips, license-free CB radio is the simplest and most practical solution for keeping in touch with each other. (250Fr)

In keeping with its age of 14 years, the Hilux is no longer new and has signs of use, but is all in all a well-maintained, pet-free, non-smoking vehicle.

As the future owner of this dream car, you now have a choice:

I have two different cabins to offer:

The first is the small gray one. Uncompromisingly designed for touring and off-roading, it is practically a hard roof tent. Lightweight, compact and low center of gravity was the goal (new price shell, empty box with door and window 10'000Fr, self-built, material for around 1000Fr).

Equipped with a 2m long and 1m wide bed for one person, the bed can be extended with a wedge to a width of 1.6m up to waist height, so that two people are also very comfortable. The 115L compressor refrigerator (1000Fr) offers enough space for gourmets.

The power system (1400Fr) includes a 100Ah LiFePo battery (not a lithium-ion battery, which catches fire very quickly), which is charged by two 120W solar panels on the roof via a combined charge controller/booster that charges with up to 30A from the on-board power supply while driving, as soon as the cut-off relay switches off when the starter batteries are full. Four USB sockets and a 12V socket allow you to charge your cell phone, flashlight, camera and anything else you need.

Two plastic Tred-Pro recovery boards (360Fr) are within easy reach at the rear. There are also two airline rails for tying down anything that is too bulky for the driver's cabin or living area.

Two windows with blackout and mosquito blinds, together with the roof vent, offer sleeping comfort even on hot nights.

Thanks to the three crank supports (345Fr), the cab can be raised and lowered in 10 minutes if the vehicle is used as an everyday car or for transporting materials. After setting up the cabin, all you have to do is insert four bolts through the floor and tighten the nuts, plug in the power supply and select your destination.

The big blue one is for those who prefer a cozy and spacious space and want to do it themselves. (Raw material from NomadCampers worth around 8000Fr and 200 hours of work)

Designed for comfort and more camping, the empty cabin offers an interior height of two meters, so almost everyone can stand. With an interior width of 179 cm, even a really wide bed for couples is no problem. Despite its size, the cabin weighs just 300 kg, and with the Hilux's 900 kg payload, you don't have to go out of your way to save every last gram.

The first step in the expansion is a 200Ah LiFePo battery with a 2kw inverter. (1080Fr)

The powerful power supply is designed for cooking with induction plates. This saves the weight of a gas bottle and the difficulty of exchanging an empty bottle abroad.

To ensure that the battery always stays full, there is a combined solar charge controller/booster with 60A from the on-board power supply (430Fr, installed once but never used)

There are also four furniture construction panels made from a wood sandwich for beautiful and lightweight furniture.

Three windows are also included so that you can enjoy the view from the most beautiful spots (679Fr)

Thanks to the four crank supports (500Fr), this cabin can also be put up and taken down within 10 minutes. Thanks to the hexagon instead of the crank, this is done effortlessly and elegantly using a normal cordless screwdriver.

The cabin has four stainless steel threaded rods embedded in the floor, which pass through the removable frame. Once the cab is in place, all that remains to be done is to tighten the four nuts and secure them with a cotter pin, then you are ready to drive off.

Such a unique vehicle cannot be described exhaustively. That's why I'm happy to show you all the details during a viewing. I have time for this almost every weekend and usually from 4.30 pm in the evening.

Price:

Hilux 21'000Fr (compare online, with the accessories and according to condition a reasonable price)

Gray cabin 10'000Fr (4 years old, below cost price)

Blue cabin 10'000Fr (close to cost price without color 470Fr, as a matter of taste)

The Hilux is only sold with at least one of the cabins, not on its own.

I'm not a fan of quoting inflated prices just to bargain. If the arguments are good, there is still room for negotiation.

The entire project is being sold because I have turned my attention to a new camper, but there is no need.
